Perth

Last stop! Almost home now - just the jet-lag to get over… four days here to get used to the cold (so much for Perth being the sunniest capital in Australia - it’s bloody freezing after Adelaide!). Mind, I arrived about 6 hours ago, so musn’t rush to judgements… the city itself looks pretty nice, after all. Shite public transport from the airport, but I’ve come to expect that from pretty much everywhere now.

Yep, Adelaide again. Back here to catch a flight to Perth… and, well - have a bit of a rest on my birthday. Yay! Happy birthday to me!

Okay, well that’ll be the Ayers Rock resort to anyone that doesn’t know… or to be truly correct, Uluru Resort. The little village next to the rock, basically.
In realisation that I’ll actually say more about Uluru than Alice Springs, I’ve pulled it out of the other entry. So, when I finally do get around to writing this properly (soon), this will be a nice contained entry about the red heart of Oz, not the shabby hole known as a town called Alice.

Alice Springs

Well, if I thought Adelaide was hot, this place is like sitting in an oven - over the past week, the temperature has varied between 32 and 42C. It’s not quite as bad as it seems, however - there is NO humidity. There is literally no moisture for 800k, so it’s the driest of dry heats - and therefore not *too* bad.
Other than that, as you’d expect. Alice Springs = outback village come tourist spot, with archetypal mix of tourists and destitute locals from the varied failed industrial operations in the area. To be frank, it’s not that nice a place (edit: in fact, I now realise I took NO pictures in the place - unheard of considering my digital camera counter is now approaching 2000 in little over 2 months of use).

Adelaide

Hot hot hot! But, quiet quiet quiet!
Perhaps it’s something to do with the easter holiday, or perhaps the lovely hot weather has drawn everyone to the beach, but i have to say - adelaide is an incredibly quiet city.
I will admit, I’ve not really looked around that thoroughly, as my hotel is a couple of miles from the CBD, but the city seems quite small - and, well, quaint. It’s a designed city, with geometric layout and so on, but somewhere along the line it seems someone forgot to inject the soul. It’s all very nice, with beautiful parklands, well-kept streets and numerous shops and offices - but overall has the feeling of eastbourne.
I’ll have a better chance to peek around when i come back here at the end of the month - but for now, this is a one night only stop on the journey up to Alice Springs and Yulura. Onto the Ghan!
